Karyl D. 'Curly' Kennedy -- Pine Island

PINE ISLAND -- The funeral for Karyl D. "Curly" Kennedy will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the United Methodist Church in Pine Island, with the Rev. Greg Strunk officiating. Interment will be in Pine Island Cemetery.
Mr. Kennedy, 83, of Pine Island, died Thursday (Feb. 1, 2007) at the Dodge Center Care Center, following a lengthy illness.
Karyl Duane Kennedy was born July 31, 1923, in Milton Township, Dodge County. He grew up in Milton Township, graduated from Pine Island High School in 1941 and served in the Merchant Marines. In the late 1930s and early 1940s, he played baseball in the Pine Island American Legion leagues and was also a pitcher for the semi-professional team in Rochester. On Nov. 11, 1943, he married Barbara Miller in Rochester. He operated a dairy farm in Milton Township and was a DHIA member from 1961 to 2005, as well as a member of the Holstein Association. He took pride in farming and raising cattle, and served on the Milton Township Board for many years.
Survivors include his wife; and two sons, Michael and Mark (Karen), both of Pine Island. Other survivors include four grandchildren, Lisa (Ryan) Foley of Sparta, Wis., Sarah (Adam) Hovden of Byron, and Lacey Kennedy and John Kennedy, both of Pine Island; and two great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Ian Foley of Sparta. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Wilma (Durst) Kennedy; and best friends, Dan Jewell Sr., and Steve Kispert.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Mahler Chapel in Pine Island, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
