Buddy William Stauffacher, 94, passed away in the early morning hours of October 19, 2015. He was born on September 28, 1921 in Monroe, Wisconsin, to David and Edna Stauffacher.
Buddy grew up in his hometown of Monroe, Wisconsin with his 4 sisters; Irene, Patricia, Ruth, and Betty Jane and two brothers; Raymond and Roy. Before the war, he worked on a dairy farm and as a Motion Picture Projectionist. On January 1, 1944, he married Myrtle Norman. Buddy answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army in the Second World War in Europe as a Muleskinner (driving a mule pack) and a Communications Installation and Repair Specialist until December 19, 1945, attaining the rank of Sargent and earning the Bronze Star among several other decorations. Buddy was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Teamsters Union.
Post war, he and Myrtle spent a long and happy life together in her hometown of Englewood, Colorado, while raising a family and enjoying the outdoors. They were married for 61 years; Myrtle passed away by his side in 2005.
For a greater part of this time, Bud worked as a mover and truck driver at Amick Moving and Storage until retiring in 1985. Much of his early work was in every part of the country before the modern interstate system, and he gained a immense knowledge of the geography of the United States. In the later part of his career, he worked locally in the Denver Area and partnered with his son.
In his retirement he enjoyed working on bikes and joking with the customers at his son and daughter- in-laws’ bicycle shop in Littleton. He also loved to create western art sculptures and woodworking. After the loss of his wife, his favorite place was the off leash area at Jason Park in Englewood, where he could see all of favorite his four-legged and human friends. Every Saturday morning he would drive to FirstBank on County Line Road where he would enjoy a donut and the friendship showered upon him by the employees and their customers.
Buddy is survived by his son; Buddy David Stauffacher and wife Sharon, an older adopted son; Robert Stauffacher and wife Dora. He had 4 grandchildren; Cindy Carey, Randall Stauffacher, Christine Turner and Dana Lockwood, and 5 great grandchildren; Kyle, Conner and Kayla Carey, Josh Stauffacher, and Reid William Lockwood, who carries Buddy’s middle name. He was preceded in death by his parents; David and Edna Stauffacher, and his wife Myrtle Stauffacher.
Buddy lived a life that was full of pride, joy, and happiness. He will be remembered as a kind, down to earth, and friendly man, albeit a bit stubborn. He was good at just about everything, and possessed a broad range of knowledge of many skills. He could fix just about anything. Just a few of his interests included woodworking, western art sculpture, horsemanship, carpentry, hunting in his younger years, and he treasured the outdoors all of his life. He taught others that it was important to give more than what was expected, and to take pride in what you do. He believed that no matter what your age you need to believe in the magic of your childhood. He may have lived 94 years, but he was very young at heart.
He was a Wisconsin boy at heart. Though after the war, his dear wife Myrtle brought him back to her beloved Colorado where they resided until death. There he immediately fell in love with the breathtaking beauty of the West, and was exhilarated by its vast distances. He quickly adopted the spirit of the west, while still keeping the friendly and open Midwestern way. Bud was rarely seen without his cowboy boots and Stetson Hat, and was an accomplished horseman. His happy demeanor made him a wonderful person to know. He connected to people and really left his mark on them. He was patient, hardworking, and generous with his time and affection. He always took an interest in the people he met: there were few people he wouldn’t engage at any time or place, and never met a dog or a baby that he didn’t love.
The family gratefully declines flowers, but donations may be made to a fund that has been created to commemorate Buddy’s memory on a bench at his favorite dog park. It should be noted that the bench will be installed in the Spring of 2016 by the City of Englewood. The address is:
