  Bernese E. Zweifel, age 96, died on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at the Luther Home Nursing Home in Marinette, WI. She had been one of the original Northland Village residents and lived there for 24 years. The former Bernese Calkins was born on March 29, 1907, daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. John Franklin (Mary Starchaska) Calkins. On December 14, 1932 she married Alfred J. Zweifel in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on September 3, 1953. Bernese was a wonderful cook and enjoyed watching the University of Wisconsin football games. She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie (Will) Reimer, Pewaukee, WI; four grandchildren, Jon & Scott Reimer, Stacy (Paul) Kartaly, and Kristin (Jim) Polzin; four great-grandchildren, Alisa & Brandon Polzin, Kaylin & Kendall Kartaly; one brother, Raymond Calkins, Marinette, WI; two sisters, Betty Bishop, West Allis, WI and Nancy Stops, Deland, Florida; Nieces and nephews Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven siblings. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 31, 2004 at the Lutheran Home Chapel in Marinette from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Ken Michaelis will be officiating. Burial will be at the Wisconsin Memorial Cemetery in Brookfield, WI. ©Berth & Rosenthal Funeral Home notice.
