New Glarus Couples Wed Together in '91
(1891:)
NEW GLARUS - Two New Glarus couples, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Elmer, Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Haegeli, Sr. quietly observed their golden wedding anniversaries at their homes this week.
Married within the same hour by the Rev. J. T. Etter at the Swiss Reformed parsonage 50 years ago, Wednesday, both couples still enjoy good health and work regularly.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer, who reside in the village, had as their attendants, Emanuel Streiff and Henry Eichelkraut. They lived on a farm near Postville until 11 years ago, when they came to New Glarus.
Mr. Elmer, 71, was born in Switzerland and came to this vicinity at the age of 18 years. Mrs. Elmer, 72, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Eichelkraut, was born on a farm southwest of town.
The Elmers have four daughters, four sons, and 23 grandchildren.
The daughters are: Mrs. Sam Luchsinger, New Glarus; Mrs. Waldo Luchsinger, Madison; Mrs. Emil Legler, Basco; and Mrs. Herman Kubly, New Glarus. Sons are Herman, and Julius, Postville, Conrad, town of Washington, and Albert, Iowa county, near Blanchardvllle.
Mrs. Elmer has long been an active member of the Ladies Aid of the Swiss Evangelical and Reformed church, of which they are both members.

After their marriage Mr. Haegeli operated a blacksmith shop in the village for 13 years. Since then they have made their home on their farm about four miles northwest of New Glarus.
The Haegele's have three sons, Henry, Jr. and Edward at home; John, near Belleville and one daughter, Mollie, at home. Mr. Haegeli, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Constantine Haegeli, and Mrs. Haegeli, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Schneider, were both born and grew up in this vicinity.
