Showers, age 86, of New Glarus, Wis., passed away on Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at the Monroe Clinic Hospital, Monroe. She was born on June 2, 1916, in New Glarus, Wis., the daughter of John M. and Margaret (Itten) Duerst. Elnora attended the Legler School and New Glarus High School. On Jan. 9, 1936, she was united in marriage to Wayne Showers of New Glarus. Elnora was employed at the New Glarus Home for over 20 years and previously worked at Ziltner's Kroger Grocery in New Glarus. She was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ, New Glarus. Survivors are two daughters, Deanne Von Arx of Harshaw, Wis., and Delayne (Merton) Retrum of New Glarus; six grandchildren, Terry (Judy) Meland of Irving, Calif., Dan Meland of Madison, Scott Meland of Harshaw, Jori (Duane) Wirth of Monticello, Sherri (Jim) Holz of Monticello, and Cindee (Kevin Hageman) Retrum of Verona; six great-grandchildren, Corey and Casey Wirth, Brandon and Ashley Holz, Eric Meland and Cassandra Baertschi; a brother, Merlyn (Claire) Duerst of Kiel, Wis.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, John, in 1927; her mother, Margaret, in 1994; her husband, Wayne, in 1984; and a son-in-law, Don Von Arx, in 1991. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at the SWISS UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, New Glarus. The Reverend Marlea Waber officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery, New Glarus.
