In the matter of livestock, he ranked among the most successful breeders and dealers in the state, and his beautiful homestead of 250 acres, which went by the name of “The Pleasant Valley Stock Farm” (located on Highway 39, it was sold in 1992 to a complete stranger after being in the family for over 100 years) was widely known and frequently visited from near and far by people of interested in the livestock business. Mr. Babler is a man of enterprise and public spirit, who manifests a commendable interest in every means and agency that makes for the material advancement of the country and the general welfare of the people. He was an unswerving supporter of the Republican party, and as such wields a strong influence for its principles, and had been a forceful factor in state and county, as well as national campaigns. From time to time, he was elected to various local offices, being chairman of Mount Pleasant township, member of the county board, and discharged his duties of his offices with credit to himself and the satisfaction of the general public. He was married to Elizabeth Legler from Betschwanden, in 1888 Nov 24, daughter of John and Maria (Blumer) Legler. She was born in 1873 July 20 in New Glarus and died in 1955 Aug 15 in Monroe.
