Hans HESS (born 1 Jul 1683. died 1 May 1733).

To America in 1717 to Willow Street, Lancaster County, PA.

A shoemaker and a farmer. Faith - Mennonite.

Wife - Magdalena(about 1688- 1767). 11 children: Jacob (born about 1708), John (born about 1710), Michael (born 1715), Magdalena (born 1717), Abraham(born about 1719), Anna(born about 1721), Barbara (born about 1723), Elizabeth (born about 1725), Christian (born 1727), Veronica (born 1729), Samuel (born 1731)

Pleased define their parents names.

Where in Europe did they live just before they moved to Pennsylvania?

Were they living close to Baldenheim, now part of France?

Hi Joanne,

the name Hess can be from Switzerland or Germany, (Saarland, Baden Württemberg) Do you have some more information on Hans Hess?

Our Hess line is LIKELY from the Emmental region of Canton Bern is Dürrenbühl, Switzerland, (near Wyssachengraben and Eriswil). Due to religious persecution, since they chose the new Täufer faith (Anabaptists), our early relatives needed to flee Switzerland between 1680-1699. For a time they LIKELY lived in the north east part of the Alsace until William Penn open Penn's Woods. Known Fact: In 1717 they then left Europe and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
