Rebmann im Kanton Aargau

Beitrag von rebman » Do 24. Mai 2012, 02:17

I am Steve Rebman and I am looking for information on my 3x great grandfather his name was Jacob Rebman born May 28 1806, he later immigrated to the state of Delaware in the USA. His place of birth was listed at Aargau Switzerland in the town of Baden. There may or may not be an alternate spelling of Rebmann

Rebmann are not listed as citizens of Baden - only of
- Brugg
- Kaisten
- Möhlin
Jacob Rebmann may still have been born in Baden, of course.

As he was born before 1876 (start of the new civil registry system) I am not sure, however, where to start best, as Aargau is not my area of expertise.

In der Schrift der SGFF N°10 (2004) "Die Familiennamen des 17.Jh. im Berner Aargau"
wird beim Namen REBMANN nur Altenburg bei Brugg angegeben.

Thank you for your input, the family is catholic would there not be baptismal records at the church in Baden? I figure this is my best option to try to track the family

Church records of Baden (catholic church) are certainly a starting point: have been filmed by the Mormons, and may be viewed at their family history centres. Whenever non-citizens are listed, usually their place of citizenship is also given - watch out for this most important info.

For a catholic family Brugg would be very unlikely to be their place of citizenship ... expect Kaisten or Möhlin (or possibly a place in another canton).
