Soulier from Yverdon, born around 1727

Hello, I am writing from Australia. Working on my family tree with help of others in The Netherlands. I received new details and therefor am here now to ask for help.

I am searching for data about my 5GGrandfather Jean Henri Soulier (or Soullie, Soulliers, Souillie, Soulie, etc. )

Jean Henri or Henri Jean was born around 1727 in Yverdun, Yverdon, canton Vaud. I believe he joined a Hessisch Regiment in 1751 or 1753. He left Yverdun and in 1753 arrived in Nijmegen, The Netherlands at the age of 23. We think he was a 'forge' (?), a smith. On arrival in The Netherlands he continued the army.

I tried all different websites trying to find historical archives. I am hopeless at French, can understand a bit of German, I am Dutch.
I used translation, but no good so far, I wish to find the local historical archives where I can find birth, marriage certificates etc. that contain the people from Yverdun.

Thank you :-O

Hello Anneke, First of all the city is called YVERDON and is located in the Canton de Vaud. At the moment the Archives near Lausanne are closed therefore you will have to wait until I have again access there, as all the documents are deposited at the Archive where we will probably find your ancestor born in Yverdon in ca 1727. Anneke trägt nach:
Hello,

I'm searching for my ancestor. Looking for Jean Henri Sulin/Sullin/Soulie/Soulier/Souliere, the name ended up as Souilljee, Solien, Soulier and a few other variations.

He was born between 1715 - 1730. We have data of his marriage in the Netherlands where they raised a family of 9 children, but have no idea of where he was born, nor when he was born.

My Dad says he was told as a child that we came from Valais and/or the Elzas. So I thought to ask around in these forums to find out if there's any knowledge about his birth in this area. I've followed several leads, so far no luck yet. Someone in our distant family said we came from Vaud, but no records have been found.

Has anyone come across a birth record of a Jean Henri Sulin/Soulier/Soulie and the rest of the variations perhaps around 1715-1730 please?

My dad's distant cousin has been working on our family tree for at least 30 years and she got stuck with Jean Henri Soulie/Soulier/Sulin.

Can anyone suggest anything?
Cheers,
Anneke [Australia]

Solier Porrentruy JU
Solioz Saint-Jean VS
Solioz Saint-Léonard VS
Solioz Sion VS
Soullier Genève GE
Sourlier Schelten BE
Sulliger Boltigen BE
Sulliger Zweisimmen BE

CYDThe Soulier family, Anneke is looking for, did not live in Geneva.
There have been Huguenot families Soulier, settling in the Vaud region around 1585. These families are now extinct, however. I have been to the Vaud State Archive near Lausanne and have copied some Soulier data from Nyon. I have not found Jean Henri Soulier, however, but he certainly was not born in Yverdon: I have checked the baptismal register there.

Thank you very much for helping CYD, and Wolf for the translation.

There is a report about J H Soulier being born in Yverdon, but this person could not verify this, nor give the source of his findings. Someone else in my distant family tree paid someone to do that research and this, among a few statements, popped up as well.

The fact that there's no sign of his birth in Yverdon, means a lot to us. The other data he gave them made no sense, though it had to be checked somehow.

I'll continue research in France, and will look into Nyon. There's a lot of Soulier in France, so far no connection yet. But you never know, right? He's gotta come from somewhere.

Thanks again. Vielen dank, CYD. Good luck with everything else on here.

CYD

For Anneke. Your ancestor was not born in Yverdon. A family Soullier lived in Nyon. I will check again in the Archives.
I checked the files of the military registration in Yverdon and Lausanne from ca 1745 to 1755, no Soullier mentioned. CYD
