Looking for the ancestors of Anna Maria SCHWEITZER born 1800 in Reigoldswil, daughter of Johannes SCHWEITZER and Anna RIEDER, died in Manchester, England in 1879. Anyone able to visit the archives at Liesthal to look at the Familienbuch / Kirchenbuch of Reigoldswil? Thanks.

First of all: welcome to the forum !

The official spelling (today) is Schweizer - I have edited the title accordingly. Different spellings around 1800 are quite possible, however.

If your family was catholic, they would have attended the church in Oberdorf-Waldenburgtal.

More likely they were reformed: the records of Reigoldswil have been filmed by the Mormons.

Very interested to know that images of the registers are now online. Unfortunately very difficult for me to read the old handwriting. Anna Maria SCHWEIZER, according to research done some time ago by a descendant in Australia, was born on 4 Aug 1800 at Reigoldswil, the daughter of Johannes SCHWEIZER and Anna RIEDER. Anna Maria married Hans Jakob HOLINGER on 4 Mar 1822 at Skt Jacob, Basel and their son Johannes HOLINGER emigrated to England. His mother, Anna Maria, must also have gone to England, probably after her husband's death, as she died in Manchester, England, on 15 Mar 1879. My cousin, who did his research at Liesthal back in the 1980's, was only interested in the HOLINGER line, whereas I am trying to fill in the female lines, of which those in Reigoldswil are just one. With the images available online I can do some more work on this, so thanks for the information.

i could find the wedding - but not the baptismal record of Anna in Reigoldswil.
Perhaps she is not born in Reigoldswil or the parents lived in this time on an other place or village. Do you have an information about her baptism - and is Rothenfluh the mother's origin?

Bestätigung der Heirat von Hans Jakob Holinger und Anna Maria Schweizer am 4.3.1822 in St.Jakob im Kirchenbuch Bennwil. Ich nehme an, dass die Eltern des Bräutigams in Bennwil wohnten.

According to extracted records on Familysearch there was a marriage of Johannes SCHWEIZER and Anna RIEDER at Bubendorf on 29 Apr 1799, but I cannot find this in the Bubendorf Kirchenbuecher online at the moment. The date would fit with Anna Maria SCHWEIZER being born or baptised on 4 Aug 1800. If I can find the marriage it might give other places to search for Anna Maria's baptism.

The attached table gives the descendants of Anna Maria SCHWEIZER and Hans Jakob HOLINGER as I have them at the moment.

for further details of Anna Maria Elisabeth Schweizer, born 5.8.1800 in Basel, St.Theodor, married 1822 with Jakob Holinger from Bennwil.

You could find all the data in our database named "HiPeBa" - you will find a short description, including a link to download the database on http://homepage.swissonline.ch/seelentag/HiPeBa/.

There are all the ancestors up to Jakob Schweizer 1641-1722, profession Wirt (means innkeeper), who is by the way also an ancestor of my husband !
