The members have been indexing the parish church books for years and you can find a simple search engine on the website. A more advanced search engine is also available.

Unfortunately the whole website is in French, and you won't be able to get detailed results unless you're a member of that genealogical society. Nevertheless, it can point you in the right direction. I didn't find any matching Jeanne Thérèse Reis/Rais in Delémont, but maybe I missed something. It's also possible that she was born elsewhere and only originated from Delsberg.

I think you are correct: the family of Jeanne Thérèse Reis/Rais was originally from Delsberg/Delémont, but she herself was born elsewhere. According to the Register of Swiss Surnames, the name Rais is also found in the towns of Courroux, Courtételle, Develier, and Vermes. Alas, all of these towns are in the Canton of Jura. Their parish registers can only be accessed at a Family History Center or a FamilySearch Affiliate Library. Trying to uncover Jeanne Thérèse's will be rather slow going, to say the least.

I assume you mean this record.

From what we can see, we're mainly dealing with protestant families (Gügi, Teissier). What are the odds that "Johanna Rees" from Delémont was born into a protestant family too? Delémont and canton Jura is mostly catholic. What if we're looking for her baptism in the wrong place?
Erforscht jemand diese Familie und kann hier weiterhelfen?

Hi Joseph,

The burgher community (Bourgeoisie) of Delémont owns burgher family registers (rôles des bourgeois) that go back a long way. If no one happens to have researched this exact family, ask them if the secretary (chancelier) can look up the family you are looking for. You should give the approximate date of birth of Thérèse Rais and mention that you live far away from Delémont.

Peter

Thank you for telling me about this great resource, Peter. I appreciate it. I will reach out to the community, explain the situation to them, and let you know when I find out anything.

Thank you, Peter, for this great advice.

Today, I received a response from the Chancelier regarding the Bourgeoisie of Delémont. He could not find anything about Jeanne Thérèse/Johanna Theresia in the Rais/Rees family files in Delémont, Courtételle, Vermes, or Develier. This is a disappointment. His surname was Rais, too!
