Re: Petit à Saint-Brais JU
Bonsoir Boris,

Hello Boris,
There is a baptismal record for a Marie Josephe Hantzer in 1784 in the parish register of Saint-Brais. The page has some damage, however, it is fortunate that the year and the names of the child's parents are readable.
You had mentioned (above) the birth date of 21/11/1802 for Francois Joseph Petit, the son of Francois and Marie Josephe Hantzer. So, I checked the parish registers of Saint-Braisborn around 1802, and did not see a baptismal record for Francois Joseph. Then checked the civil registration of Saint-Brais and still did not see a birth record around 1802 for him, however, there is a Francois Joseph Petit in the index of births for the year 1811 (I may have read the year incorrectly as 1811 since I cannot read French, except for some key words). See attachments below.
Debra
Corrected: As Peter.D explained (see his post from 21.10.), “During the French period, the authorities in Jura had to use the (highly sophisticated) Revolutionary Calendar (until 1805 only). The two dates are therefore: … Birth: 30 brumaire 11 = november 21, 1802.” My reading of Francois Joseph Petit’s year of birth as 1811 is incorrect - the year is actually: 1802.

Re: Petit à Saint-Brais JU
There is a marriage record in the civil registration of Saint-Brais for a Francois Petit and Marie Josephe Hantzer in 1810 (the register contains a ten-year index of marriages, which lists the names of this couple).
Corrected: As Peter.D explained (see his post from 21.10.), “During the French period, the authorities in Jura had to use the (highly sophisticated) Revolutionary Calendar (until 1805 only). The two dates are therefore: Marriage: 18 brumaire 10 = november 9, 1801 ... .” My reading of Francois Petit and Marie Josephe Hantzer’s year of marriage as 1810 is incorrect - the year is actually: 1801.

Re: Petit à Saint-Brais JU
During the French period, the authorities in Jura had to use the (highly sophisticated) Revolutionary Calendar (until 1805 only).
The two dates are therefore:
Marriage: 18 brumaire 10 = november 9, 1801
Birth: 30 brumaire 11 = november 21, 1802
In the baptism record from 1784, I'm not sure about the two words between Farré (today Farez) and in Cesay (today Césai). Can anyone help?
The CGAEB database also contains a birth record for Hanzer (Hautzer, Henzer etc.) in 1799 (republican year 7 or 8) and a death record in 1811, recorded in at least the civil registers kept by the mayor. According to this database, there were 3 births Hanzer between 1783 und 1790 listed in the parish registers. Perhaps the origin of the Hanzer family is also mentioned in it.

Re: Petit à Saint-Brais JU
Hello Peter,
I read the linked Wiki page about the “French Republican calendar” and thought it was interesting and helpful. Thank you for converting the two dates (marriage and birth). On both of my posts (from 20.10.), I have added a new note and edited each “file comment” to reflect the correct dates. Thank you very much again for your help.

Re: Petit à Saint-Brais JU
The CGAEB database that Peter suggested is useful with it's "transcription of civil and parish registers." I looked up the records listed above, plus a few other ones in that database. Copies of those records have been added to Hanser / Hantzer in Saint-Brais JU.Peter.D hat geschrieben: Di 21. Re: Petit à Saint-Brais JU
Hello Debra
Thank you so much for all this research, excellent !
The archivist of the canton of Jura sent me the attached baptismal certificate of Marie Josephe from 1784 and found nothing concerning the marriage of François PETIT and documents relating to their son Pierre Joseph in St. Brais JU.
Have you been to a FamilySearch Center for the documents ?
Thank you again
Best regards
Boris

Yes, I went to a FamilySearch Center for the documents. I don't know French and before looking up the documents of Saint-Brais, I had done only a little bit of research with documents in French or in Latin. So, the help and explanations from Wolf, Peter.D and other contributors on this forum helps me to learn and improve.
Best regards
Debra

Re: Petit à Saint-Brais JU
bonjour
