Hallo Susan,

just an organisational comment first: please, do not use online translators - they are pretty useless. Writing in English is fine - this board is multiligual, and in case of problems friendly members will translate.

Now for your query - which I have split from the Erb-in-Biberstein thread: whilst it is not impossible, it is fairly unlikely that the two families are related - with a fairly common name like Erb. The problem is that Erb do not hold citizenship in neither Biberstein nor Oftringen - so they could have been citizens just anywhere in Switzerland.

Places of citizenship for Erb in canton Aargau are since before 1800:
- Erlinsbach
- Frick
- Gipf-Oberfrick
- Oberhofen
- Wölflinswil
plus further citizenships in cantons BE, BL, SG, SO, SZ, ZH. Consequently just a name and a guesstimated year of birth are a rather poor starting point. More info would be required for any effective research - like what info have you got on Fridolin? Date and place of birth? Anything else?
