Hello Mr. Wolf,
I am researching information about Andreas Ludwig George Schwuchow, born in Berlin, Germany, on July 22, 1852; and married to Marie Nuberling (from Linden(?), Baviera, Germany).
They had, at least, 2 children born in ST. GALLEN (Switzerland): Ida Maria Minna Gertrude (born 21-8-1883, Baptism June 2, 1884) and Walter, born in 1884.
His great-grandchild informed me that A. L. George emigrated to Mexico, and held a diplomatic position (ambassador?) When George and his wife Marie emigrated to Mexico (Central America) they brought with them their children: I. M. M. Gertrude, and Walter.
Any information would be very appreciated,
Best regards,
Ana U.

If St.Gallen actually means the city, and not just the canton of St.Gallen, the City Archive should have data on this family in their registration files. I have enquired and will let you know, what their response is.

Dear Mr. Wolf,
I thank you for your prompt response.
I contacted the great-grandchild of A. L. George Schwuchow and asked him to get more precise information about the St.Gallen place where his grandfather (Walter Schwuchow) was born.
A question: at that time, were the daughter and son of A. L. George Schwuchow considered Swiss just for being born in a Swiss Canton, even when their parents were both German?
Does Switzerland have a Census of the population in those years of interest for this case? I found that "....Between 1860 and 2000, a census took place every ten years in December. The only exceptions to this 10-year rhythm were the population census of 1888 (brought forward as the basis for the revision of the constituency boundaries)"
Is there a way to find out when the Schwuchow family left St. Gallen bound for America?
Thank you.
Best regards,
Ana U.

Are you referring to

Once we found their traces to start with, we could look for further info.

Hi
I don't know if the Census of the Canton St. Gallen survived, but some other Swiss Cantons have census lists of the 19th century which are similar like the ones in France.
Did you search for the passenger manifest or some records from Mexico on ancestry or familysearch?
The marriage record of Gertrud says that she was born in Buchenthal, Schweiz.

If he held a diplomatic position there are possibilities to find some documents.
If he held the position for Germany, in the Bundesarchiv Berlin (online on invenio).

If he held the position for Switzerland, on the website of the Bundesarchiv in Bern.

By the way maybe I can help you to find the ancestors of Marie Nuberling (maybe Nieberling or Nieberle) from Linden or Lindau, Bavaria.
But we should discuss this in another thread or by private messages.

Here is the response from the St.Gallen City Archive - an excerpt from the "Einwohnerregister":
StGallen-EinwReg_Schwuchow.pdf
Andreas Ludwig Georg Schwuchow first registered in Tablat (today merged into the city of St.Gallen) in 1881. He then changed address a couple of times (still single) - before settling in Tablat in 1883 with his family. In 1890 the family moved to Kreuzlingen (Thurgau) - he travelled on business to America. If you want to know what happened to the family afterwards, e.g. whether they followed him - or he returned and they emigrated later, you'd have to enquire at the Thurgau State Archive.
Altogether 5 children are mentioned.
The wife's maden name (Häberlin instead of Nüberlin) is a reading error.
