Greetings from Australia,
I have a question about the abbreviation A.n. and possibly also An. These abbreviations occur in the records of two Zellweger children who were baptised (and one of whom died) in Genoa, Italy. These events were recorded in the church books of Trogen AR
The first record is the 1792 baptism of A. Judit Zellweger – see the entry after number 40 and before number 41.
.... A. Judit nata 29 Sept baptiz 8 Nov A.n. von Andr(eas) Ros(ius)a Porta obiit ...

My first thought was that A.n. could be an abbreviation for the Latin Annus natalis = year of birth.
However the second record is the 1793 death of A. Judit Zellweger – see the entry after number 17 and before number 18.
A. Judit Zellweger Hr. J. Caspars ehl l. Töchterl. mort. in Genua d. 19 Maÿ An.
35 Wch.

This infant girl died in May 1793; which is not her year of birth.
Have I read An. correctly or is it also A.n.
The final record is the 1796 baptism of Dorothea Zellweger – see the entry after 6 January 1796
…. Dorothea nata 1795. 27 nov A.n. bapt. 1796 17 Aug ….

Two further Zellweger children were born in Genoa but their records do not include the abbreviation.
I would be very grateful for any ideas about what this abbreviation might mean.
Thank you.
Lis
