Winiger im Kanton Bern

Hello,

Genealogist working on WINIGER family in the USA.

I have 3 branches of Winiger in the USA ... ALL immigrated from various parts of Switzerland..

Winiger in Kriens, Luzern ... (these folks appear to have landed ultimately in St. Louis Missouri.

Winiger in Bern ... (these folks landed in Colorado).

Winiger from Jona (I have received some initial help here on this branch).

I am trying to see if they are related to each other in Switzerland.

Thanks,
David Winiger

Forget about Google translate - use https://www.deepl.com/translator ... is miles more accurate!

Depends on the time period you are researching. Certainly before about 1850 - but occasionally even later - Wyniger and Winiger will have been used in parallel (i.e. for the same family) in Switzerland - and spellings used in the USA should not be considered reliable at all when going back to Switzerland.
