Die amerikanischen Nachfahren brachten folgendes in Erfahrung:
"The ancestral home of the Herdman family is in Germany. Our line has been traced back to HENRY HERDMAN, who was born in 1759 in the Province of Hesse, Germany, and at the age of 16 came to America with Hessian mercenaries in 1776 or 1777, along with his brother. Both fought on the side of the English during the Revolutionary War and were captured as prisoners of war, serving their at Trenton or Saratoga. Both were paroled into the care of Henry's future father-in-law, PETER SHOEMAKER SR. of Loudoun Co., Virginia, who had come to America around 1776 or 1777.(Es handelt sich um die "Battles of Saratoga, NY vom 19.9.-7.10.1777, bei der Herdman gefangen wurde.

After their release, the brother returned to England, but Henry refused to return to the Army and was accepted into the home of Peter Shoemaker. He became the second husband of Peter's daughter, EVA ELIZABETHA, around 1788 in Loudoun Co, Virginia. He later surveyed the Virginia Military District and the Northwest Territory with Colonel Massie in the early 1790's, working in Ohio during the winter and returning to Virginia in the summer. "
Im Lagis Archiv habe ich leider keinen Hinweis auf diese Personen finden können. Auch nicht in der Abwandlung als Hardmann. Vielleicht gibt es erfahrene Mitforscher, die noch eine Suchmöglichkeit kennen ? Danke !
