Hello
There is a Florian Zogg, the son of Christian Zogg and Anna Katharina Rüdlinger, baptized on 19.10.1856 in Grabs, St. Gallen, who got married to Bertha Waedel about 1888 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - see
https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/pe ... e/M83B-NBF. I checked the data on familysearch for this couple and their children (though not for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, etc.), using both the indexes and the images of the marriage record for Florian and Bertha and the birth records for the children.
The marriages and deaths of Florian and Bertha’s son and daughters began in the year 1908 with the marriage of Anna and continued up thru 1971 when Renata died. Some of the records of these events are indexed, but the images are not available to view, of course, due to the time period. Fortunately, the marriage announcements (e.g., engagement and marriage license notices), and the obituaries for them are available in newspapers online.
I found some errors on familysearch, such as Florian and Bertha's marriage place of "Milwaukee, Wisconsin", which doesn’t match the correct place of "New London, Waupaca, Wisconsin" in the index of the marriage record (under the Sources tab) - see image below. Also, Florian's surname was indexed as "Fogg". Looking at the image, I'm not sure about the first letter of the surname; however, the first name of the wife's father looks like "Fredrick" and the first letter of that name is similar to one for "Fogg". I read the names of Florian's parents in the image as: Christian ?ogg and Katherina R?edlinger. The family name of the mother in the marriage record looks similar to the mother's name of "Rüdlinger" in the baptismal record for Florian Zogg in 1856 in Wartau, St. Gallen - see
https://dls.staatsarchiv.sg.ch/records/ ... er_page=56.
The US census, 1900, in Appleton, Outagamie, Wisconsin, for Floran Zogg, gives his wife's name as: Bertha. Their children: Louis, Annie, Louisa, Emma and Renata - see image below.
While looking at these four records for a Florian Zogg/Fogg, i.e. baptism on 19.10.1856 in Wartau SG; New York passenger list of arrivals in 1881; marriage in 1887 in New London, Waupaca, Wisconsin; US census 1900 in Appleton, Outagamie, Wisconsin - I noticed some connections:
1. In the census for Floran Zogg:
Floran Zogg - US Census, 1900, Appleton, Outagamie, Wisconsin.jpg
The answer to question number 16 (Year of immigration to the United States) is 1881, which is the same year as the NY passenger list of arrivals.
The answer to question number 7 (Date of birth - month / year) is October 1857. The month is the same as the baptismal record, but the year is off by one year. The heading gives the date of the census as "the 2nd day of June" and Florian was born in October, so he was not yet 43 years old. The answer to question number 8 (Age at last birthday) is 42 years old. Perhaps this is the reason the birth year is off a little bit?
The answer to question number 10 (Number of years married) is 13. The marriage record is dated 1887, so that was 13 years before the census was taken in 1900.
2. In the marriage record, the names of Florian's parents are similar to the names of the parents in the baptismal record, but there are differences in the spellings.
