I am trying to trace my Great-great grandmother Helene Meyenberg, borned Doswald, in Neuheim May 22. 1836[/b]. She was married to Alois (Alouis) Meyenberg born in Zug in 1833. I have not been able to find an “open” database in Switzerland enabling me to search for them. They must have emigrated to Scandinavia late 1850 / early 1860 since their first daughter was born in Kville - Sweden in 1861. Helene was 25 years old at that stage. After some years in Sweden they moved on to Halden a small Norwegian city close to the Swedish border. There they bought a farm and my Great grandmother Clara Albertine Marie Meyenberg was borned as their fourth of a total of seven children. Later on they moved to Kristiania (Oslo), Norway and settled there. My Great grandmother, Clara Albertine Marie Meyenberg gave birth to my grandmother Clara Marie Bernhardine Stjernholm in 1888.
The family story says that Helene, coming from a well-off family, meeting a young man with a peasant background was not a good match for her parents and that they fled the country to be able to nourish their love for each other. I do not know if this was the truth.
