Zu
Purtschert von Pfaffnau gibt es im
Historischen Lexikon der Schweiz interessante Angaben (see translation below).
--------------------------------------
Purtschert [Burtschert]
Builders family of Pfaffnau, likely going back to Franz from St.Gerold, Grosses Walsertal (Vorarlberg). Franz was from 1681 "Twinggenosse" in Pfaffnau. Several Purtschert had been working as bulding supervisors, stonemasons or bricklayers, increasingly also as building contractors, e.g. for the parsonage Pfaffnau or the churches in Luthern (1752) and Ettiswil (1771). Apart from
Nikolaus his cousin Joseph Robert (1751-1809) got himself a reputation, amongst others contributing to the Frauenfeld Townhall, the priory and sexton's house in Beromünster as well as the churches in Zell (LU) and Willisau. The Purtscherts together with the
Singers dominated the bulding trade in Luzern and Central Switzerland from the middle of the 18th century.

The article
Das Gefüge der Gemeinden bis 1798 explains the standing of a "Twinggenosse" (in German) in a wider context.

Hi - welcome to the board !
Purtschet is not a Swiss name - so at least over here Purtschert will be the correct spelling today (less likely Purtscher).
But - what is "fasenax"? I assume it is supposed to be a location ... in Switzerland? What is the source for this spelling (which doesn't exist in Switzerland)? There is a Faselimatt (a street name) in Dagmersellen, some 10 km from Pfaffnau - but this seems to be a bit farfetched.

Do you have further information about Jonas Purtschet? When and where did he marry? And what information do you have regarding his origin?
It could be that "Purtschet" is from "Purtschert". There were about a dozen different spellings of the name Purtschert and "Burtschet" was one of them. But the prename Jonas didn't exist in Pfaffnau: there wasn't a single child with that name from 1612 to 1788.
Kind regards

hey oliver and wolf,
thanks a lot for your quick answer
that is the question between my familly spelling and the familly swiss spelling
most probably a wrong written translation at border?
anyway it is coming from switzerland.
what i know it is jonas (jean) purtschet or purtschert or Burchert went to France from switzerland
he married a french wife in Jura (between 1838-1840) and had a son philippe-clement in 1841, paul emile 1844 in France and the others in algeria where he died in 1864.
Currently i am looking about the wedding act. i will have his birth site localization
His father could be from Pfaffnau where most of Purtschert coming from, maybe Johan purtschert !!!
I am looking the link between Pfaffnau and jura
thanks for your help

I wouldn't even call it an error at the border: even in Pfaffnau the different forms like "Burtschet", "Burtschert" and "Burtscher" were used simultaneously.
Is it secure that he was from Switzerland? The Purtschert from Pfaffnau were originally from Austria, where there are Purtscher up to this day.
So you're not sure how Jean (Johann) Purtschet's father was called? And is the birth year 1810 precise? I've found an Johann Burtschert, son of Johann Burtschert and Barbara Geiser, born in Pfaffnau, Altweg, baptised the 05.04.1810 in Pfaffnau. Could that be the searched Johann?
Kind regards
Olivier

Oliver,
Yes it is sure that is coming from switzerland and jura is close to the border. so it could be really possible and make sens.
but i cannot confirm your info that you found.
You know also that some swiss join the napoleon army around 1805.
Luzerner in französischen Kriegsdiensten unter Kaiser Napoleon I.
1805 bis 1815: Johann Purtschert von Uznach
I will let you know if i have more info and i will ask your help again
But i am really impress about your knowledge.
it is very interesting that the same familly base you have different familly names.
From Purtschert side I found some info between vorasberg, bergenz and Pfaffnau.
i am really exciting to find the link between france and switzerland and to know my swiss side
have a nice evening

Tell us when you know more about your ancestors.
I have access to the churchbooks of Pfaffnau and an index for the most books, so it should be easy to trace your line back to
Franz Purtschert (* about 1655, † 14.06.1726 in Pfaffnau) and Verena Fluder (* about 1655, † 13.01.1709 in Pfaffnau). Franz Purtschert is the first member of the family in Pfaffnau. He emigrated from
St.Gerold (Vorarlberg, Austria) to Pfaffnau, where he became a citizen in 1681 (Staatsarchiv Luzern, RP 79: Ratsprotokoll (1681-1684), f. 8v).
It's actually quite common to have different spellings for the same name. Sometimes probably changed the pronunciation over time which resulted in different forms.
Kind regards and a nice evening

Hey Laurent
You probably need to have the mariage record to be sure. The spelling "Purtscher" could be from Pfaffnau, but without his exact origin or the name of his parents it's just guessing. The marriage or the birth of his sons weren't reported back to Pfaffnau, but that would be exeptional for that time period.
The parish Pfaffnau had several "Status Animarum", these are books with all the inhabitans sorted by domiciles. They reach from about 1775 to 1827. The last book was continued until 1845. Should I look there on occasion if there is an useful remark to one Purtscher? Maybe there's something, but don't expect too much.
Kind regards

Hey Laurent
I’m glad to hear that you found his death certificate and the names of his parents.
It indeed seems to be the Johann Purtschert that I've found in 2016. With my index to some of the church records of Pfaffnau I was able to find a lot of information about your direct Purtschert line:
1.
Johann Purtschert (~ 05.04.1810 in Pfaffnau)
2.
Johann Jakob Stefan Purtschert (~ 26.12.1776 in Pfaffnau, † 14.03.1823 in Pfaffnau, Häusle)
oo 12.02.1810 in Pfaffnau
3.
Maria Barbara Geiser (~ 07.11.1776 in Pfaffnau, † 13.10.1830 in Pfaffnau, Häusle), daughter of Johann Geiser and Luzia Hunkeler.
4.
Niklaus Robert Purtschert (~ 18.11.1748 in Pfaffnau, † 24.03.1796 in Pfaffnau, Altweg)
oo 20.02.1775 in Pfaffnau
5.
Elisabeth Kaufmann (~ 04.08.1756 in Richenthal, † 27.08.1815 in Pfaffnau, Altweg), daughter of Sebastian Kaufmann and Maria Anna Gut. She remarried on 29.01.1799 in Pfaffnau Josef Mangold (~ 11.12.1774 in Pfaffnau, † 15.03.1828 in Pfaffnau, Weid), son of Josef Mangold and Anna Maria Stirnimann.
8.
Franz Bernhard Purtschert (~ 10.07.1711 in Pfaffnau, † 29.03.1797 in Pfaffnau, Altweg)
oo 25.02.1740 in Pfaffnau
9.
Anna Maria Ruckstuhl (~ 07.04.1719 in Pfaffnau, † 06.08.1787 in Pfaffnau, Altweg), daughter of Andreas Ruckstuhl and Maria Röösli.
16.
Sylvester Purtschert (~ 22.01.1683 in Pfaffnau, † 11.06.1753 in Pfaffnau)
oo 03.02.1710 in Pfaffnau
17.
Anna Widmer (* about 1690, † 01.04.1745 in Pfaffnau, Weid), from Richenthal.
32.
Franz Purtschert (* about 1655, † 14.06.1726 in Pfaffnau), originally from Sankt Gerold in Vorarlberg, Austria,
oo before 1681
33.
Verena Fluder (* about 1655, † 13.01.1709 in Pfaffnau).
For the filiations see the census of the parish Pfaffnau from
about 1780 and the one from
about 1815 as well as the church records of Pfaffnau. There you can verify the information and find more about the siblings as well as the maternal lines.
By the way: Your ancestor Franz Bernhard Purtschert was the brother of my 6th great-grandfather Niklaus Sylvester Purtschert (~ 19.04.1717 in Pfaffnau, † 16.11.1796 in Pfaffnau, Weid).

Of course many questions arose after this about johann.
Why did he leave Pfaffnau for france, etc ....
For sure one day i have to stop by Pfaffnau to find some extra documents.
I should find where they leave in Pfaffnau.
Is it a link with church builder jacob singer ?
Thanks again for you support and your help

Singer, Jakob
Jh. Verwendung fand.

Dear Laurent
You're welcome!
Why exactly Johann left Pfaffnau could be hard to find out. Maybe because of poverty and since both of his parents died early?
I'd rather recommend the State Archive of Lucerne. There are maybe documents about him.
Jakob Singer worked together with and as a competitor of two Purtschert, Johann Josef and Johann Jakob. Some Purtschert were important in the architecture of Central Switzerland in the 18th century (see the first post of this thread by Walter). All of those Purtschert are cousins of our ancestors.
Kind regards

Dear Oliver,
Could you look about that
What do you think?
I deducted that Purtschert was part of walser tribe and part of alaman population from south of germany.
Push by alaman and snow decrease on mountain due to hot weather, they migrate in alps mountain around 1000 AC.
They setled between 1000 and 2000 m and developp some typical building. May be the knowledges allow them to become builder specialiste?
Due the space limitation, many children move forward to find some new location for leaving.

Guten Abend purtschert
Olivier Felber
Dear Laurent
That might be possible. Although it's hard to find evidence for that. Franz Purtschert (-1726) was a mason but I don't know where he learned the profession.
