Zuvan is not mentioned in Familiennamenbuch der Schweiz. The closest I find would be ZUAN of Sils im Engadin.

You have already started a thread on Bansi of Ardez - with a line gaining citizenship of Silvaplana in 1870.

Hallo Solan

Zuvan, Jachem, 1809 (Segl - Baselgia). Zuvanol,1596 (Grevasalvas) (Segl).

(this for example)

On good authority.

Christian Zuvan, Norway Baptisms, spouse: Anna Magdalena Bansi. child: Christian Christensen. Father's Name: Christian Zuvan. Mother's Name: Anna Magdalena Bansi.

Search on good authority.

Ich erlaube mir noch etwas zum Fam. Nam. Bansi hinzuzufügen: Der Name ist in Ardez bereits a. 1520 verz.. Die Kirchenbücher von GR/CH wurden jedoch erst ab dem 17 Jh. ordentlich geführt.

I am interested in all his children: Heinrich Bansi war Pfarrer und Bauer. His Son called Johann Bansi.

Thank you - vielen dank.
All this data now I have to process.
Meine deutsch ist nicht so gut.... and on top of it... there is the
rules and language of genealogy.

Regarding Zuvan: I got the information on this family on internet, where it is registered that the family was imigrants to Norway.
around 1812. In that immigration document the spelling of the name is suggesting several spellings:

"The name is derived from GIUWAN and can also be written Zuwang,
Zouvent, Zuwan.( Zouan, Zouwant )"

source: www.vigerust.net/immigrant/christiania1730_1814.html

In this document 3 children of Christian Zuan / Zuvan / Giuwan
are listed:
Christian born 1817- dead 1834
Johan Zuvan born 1819
Ursine Zuvan born 1825 ( This is my great great grandmother )

Zur Schreibweise von Familiennamen im Thread-Titel

Bitte genau lesen ;) ...

Hallo,

Zuan(e) (and many more) =venezianisch (Ventian). Italy =Giovan or. Giovan(n)(i), sometimes Giuwan, Giuvan. English=John; a short (shortened form) form of Johannes.

Hello and thank you Tarcos

Does this mean that when I look in the churchrecords (born)
in Champfer- I should look for Christian Zuan ?

And if that does not work- I try the other spellings?

( I have not a clue where to find those records-but that is another story)

solan :?

Hallo,

No, this does not mean it. You should look for Christian ZUVAN. Try on this web page:

Christian Zuvan, Norway Baptisms, spouse: Anna Magdalena Bansi. child: Christian Christensen. Father's Name: Christian Zuvan. Mother's Name: Anna Magdalena Bansi.

On this web page recorded:

https://www.familysearch.org/

It is also possible for you, in the church registers of Champfer. But I know, that you do not live in Switzerland.

(Zuan, Zuvan, Zuwan even many more, "means" John/Johannes.)

HELLO AGAIN -Thanks for helping me this far. :)
I found what you pointed out on Familysearch.

Now I maybe have access in Sweden to mikrofilm from records in Graubunden.
I did my geography lesson and found out that
Champfer , of district Oberengadin, belongs one half to St Moritz and the other half to Silvaplana. :?

It has crossed my mind to visit Switzerland-Staatsarchive in Chur,
but first I must do my lessons of geography and history and
find out what/how to search further.
:?: QUESTION: is Engadin the same as Oberengadin ??
What is Sils - is that short for Silvaplana ?

QUESTION:

1. is Engadin the same as Oberengadin ??

2. What is Sils - is that short for Silvaplana ?

Hallo,

1. Yes/no. The Engadin: upper Engadin end lower Engadin. The difference is the language (Romansh language) respectively the dialect (Idiom). In lower engadin "PUTER" and in upper engadin "VALADER". (even Germ. and Italy).

The Engadin: upper Engadin end lower Engadin:

http://encyclopedia.jrank.org/EMS_EUD/E ... Engad.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engadin

2. No, are different village: Sils in Engadin including (Fraktionen) Sils -Maria and Sils-Baselgia.

Online- physical map: http://map.search.ch/sils-im-engadin-segl

Villiages: Sils in Engadin, Silvaplana, Champfer, ect., the villages close "by altogether". (few minutes by car)

Sils in Engadin/Segl: is a municipality in the district of Maloja in the Swiss canton of Graubünden ect..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sils_im_Engadin/Segl
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silvaplana
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champfer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ardez

Or:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
http://www.engadin.stmoritz.ch/sommer/en/

(at the top on the right (search) enter Silvaplana, or Champfer or Ardez ect., end press enter.

Torcas thank you - most helpful. BEAUTIFUL VILLAGES ! :D
next time I will ask the internet on trivial questions.

For now- I will search the mikrofilm stock in sweden to see
if I can find Christian Zuvan born 1788 ( not 1789 see above )

Instead here I will follow the thread of Bansi to search for a brother of Heinrich Bansi.
Over and out to my other thread. :P
