Re: Jacob Gustav Gauch - emigrated to the U.S.
Hi! I'm so excited that I found this information on Jacob Gauch! I was wondering if you have more information about the Gauch family especially earlier information dating back to when they were in Switzerland? I have a little information on Emma Gauch if you are interested.
Thank you!
Thank you!

Re: Jacob Gustav Gauch - emigrated to the U.S.
I have started a new thread for the discussion of the family in Switzerland.
I recommend you open this thread and activate "follow this thread" (or similar - not sure about the wording in English) to receive a mail notification in case of any response.
Jacob Gustav Gauch may have been born in Alpnach - but this is not a place of citizenship for Gauch. Places of citizenship (since before 1800) are:
- Bettwil and Niederwil (both AG)
- Tafers and Tentlingen (both FR)
- Schongau LU
of which Schongau will be the most likely one. If we are lucky, his place of citizenship will be indicated in his baptismal entry.

Re: Jacob Gustav Gauch - emigrated to the U.S.
Hi pavleck08
It is great to hear from you. I am very interested to receive more Information about Emma Gauch.
I am looking for an Emma Gauch, born approx. 1901 in Switzerland.
She emigrated to the US in 1906 with her parents and siblings.
Would that possibly be the same Emma as the one you have Information about?
If yes, I have details about her Swiss Family for you too. Are you related to Emma?
Best regards
Gaby Gauch (gamajajo)

Re: Jacob Gustav Gauch - emigrated to the U.S.
Hello!
Yes, I believe this is the same Emma Gauch! She is my great-grandmother, and she was also who I was named for. You must also be a relative...being a Gauch yourself?
I'd love to what information I have with you, though it is probably not too much. Would you like to continue on this forum or email or something? I'm sorry, I'm new to this site and a little unfamiliar with how to go about this!
Thanks!
Emma

Re: Jacob Gustav Gauch - emigrated to the U.S.
May I just step an and make a comment on communication via forum postings versus direct communication (PN or email)?
The purpose of a forum (like this one) is to give people with the same interest (e.g. in a given family) a chance to meet and make new acquaintances. This is obviously only possible if information is posted on the forum, and includes follow-up information. This principle will not work if, after a first contact, all further communication happens directly (e.g. email) only.
On the other hand, one should be careful about fairly recent data: I myself wouldn't talk about my kids in the forum - and most likely nobody would be interested anyway (apart from direct relatives). So a compromise has to be found on what's published in the forum, and what's communicated directly. You yourself have to think about what "your compromise" is.
My rule of thumb is: all data prior to about 1900 should preferrably go onto the forum; the longer after 1900 some info is dated, the more restrictive I would be with publication, and prefer to communicate only directly.
